What does HVAC SEO look like in San Diego specifically?

San Diego HVAC demand does not follow a national HVAC calendar. Coastal Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Encinitas barely spike for air conditioning at all, while Escondido, San Marcos, and Poway run hot enough inland to drive real emergency search volume from June through September. A second spike hits in October and November with Santa Ana wind season and the first cold nights, when heating repair and furnace queries wake up. The work is to publish and index the page sixty to ninety days before each spike, not during it. Google will not rank a page fast enough to catch the week you wrote it for.

The two spikes, and why timing beats keyword choice

Every HVAC site I audit has an air conditioning repair page that went live in July. That is the month the searches happen, which means the page is competing from a standing start against pages that have been indexed since April.

Publish in April. Publish the heating page in August. Boring advice, and almost nobody does it.

Publish byWhat spikes laterWhat to have live
MarchPre-season tune-ups, May and JuneAC maintenance page, per-city pages inland
AprilEmergency AC repair, June through SeptemberSame-day repair page, GBP service list updated
AugustFurnace and heating repair, November through JanuaryHeating repair page, heat pump comparison content

Inland and coastal are not the same market

A homeowner in Hidden Meadows searching in July is in a different emergency than one in South Oceanside searching the same phrase. One has a house at 96 degrees. The other is annoyed for three days a year.

Which means the inland city pages should carry the emergency and same-day language, and the coastal ones should lean toward maintenance, ducting, indoor air quality, and heat pump conversions. Same trade, different page. We already run city pages this way for other trades across Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, and Oceanside.

What I would build first for an HVAC company in North County

  1. Fix the Google Business Profile primary category. HVAC Contractor and Air Conditioning Repair Service pull different query sets, and the secondary categories are where most of the loss is.
  2. One page per city you actually dispatch to, with the drive time and the neighborhoods named. Not a footer list of twenty cities.
  3. Page speed before content volume. Integrity Pro Washers in North Park had a largest contentful paint of 18.1 seconds. We got it to 8.9 and that fix outperformed every keyword decision we made that month.
  4. Weekly job photos on the profile, uploaded from the phone that took them. Mr Green Turf Clean went from zero profile impressions to 130 plus doing exactly this.
  5. Seasonal pages published a full quarter ahead, then updated rather than replaced each year.

How long does this take, honestly

We do not have an HVAC case study yet. I am not going to pretend otherwise, and if an agency shows you a case study for your exact trade in your exact city, ask whether that client is still with them.

What we do have is a timeline that has held across three trades. Integrity Pro Washers pulled 167 search impressions and 81 Google Business Profile impressions in month one. Mr Green Turf Clean reached 451 search impressions and the number one organic position for turf cleaning san diego, plus a profile that started at zero. Both took the same shape: impressions inside thirty days, map pack movement between sixty and ninety, calls trailing the map pack.

HVAC is more competitive than turf cleaning. Expect the slower end of that range and budget for two seasonal cycles before you judge it. The numbers on both accounts are on the results page and the grading process is on how it works.

The suspension risk nobody warns HVAC contractors about

License and insurance data has to match across the CSLB record, the profile, and the site. Arcadian Landscape, an Encinitas contractor, got suspended on May 19, 2026 after a batch of profile edits. We reinstated it in under 24 hours on May 21 with the CSLB lookup, an ACORD 25 certificate of insurance, and the IRS CP-575 letter submitted as one package.

For a licensed trade with an emergency service line, a week of suspension in July is not a marketing problem. It is a payroll problem.

Pricing sits on services, and the free audit for home service businesses is on the audit page. Publish the April page in April.
