How often should a home service business post on Google Business Profile?

Post once a week at minimum, and keep each post tied to a real job, offer, or seasonal need. Google does not publish a required cadence, so the point is consistency, not volume. Posts show up on your profile, support what searchers see before calling, and give you a place to use service and city terms naturally. Skipping weeks for months makes a profile look abandoned.

I want to be honest about what posts do. They are not a ranking switch.

What posts actually do for a contractor profile

In our own tests, the posts that moved calls were the ones that matched what someone searched. We treat posts as a conversion and freshness layer on top of the primary category, services, and reviews.

Mr Green Turf Clean in Poway gained 130+ GBP impressions from zero, and Integrity Pro Washers had 81 in month one. Both profiles were built on category and service accuracy first. Posts came after.

A mistake we corrected

Early on, we posted generic promotions. They got no engagement. Switching to specific job posts with a neighborhood name and a photo, such as a driveway wash in North Park, made the profile read like a working business.

What should you post? A weekly routine

  1. Pick one finished job from this week.
  2. Take two or three photos that show the result clearly.
  3. Write two or three sentences naming the service and the neighborhood.
  4. Add a button that goes to the matching service page.
  5. Post it, then log it so you can compare against calls.

What to leave out

Do not stuff keywords. Do not repeat the same post. Avoid phone numbers in the text and prices you cannot honor. A flagged profile costs more than a quiet one, and our Arcadian Landscape reinstatement showed how fast a suspension can hit an established Encinitas business.

How posts fit with photos and reviews

Posts are the cheapest part of the profile to keep fresh. Photos and review velocity do more of the heavy lifting, which is why we wrote about photos and posts on three contractor profiles and review velocity separately.

If you want us to run the profile, our GBP help page explains how, and services has the packages. If you only want to check your category first, read why impressions do not turn into calls.
