What do local SEO services include for a home service contractor?

A local SEO service for a contractor should cover five things: a Google Business Profile that is set up and maintained, a website with service and city pages that match how homeowners search, technical fixes that keep pages fast and crawlable, reviews and citations that confirm the business is real, and monthly reporting tied to calls and rankings. Anything beyond those five should justify itself with a measurable result. Many packages pad the list with link bundles and social posts that don't change rankings or phone calls.

That is the short version. The rest of this post is how I decide what stays and what goes.

Start with the profile, because it is the cheapest win

Most contractors who call us already have a Google Business Profile, and most have the wrong primary category or a thin service list. Mr Green Turf Clean went from zero to 130+ profile impressions after we fixed the basics. Nothing exotic. Category, services, service area, photos.

If a profile gets suspended, that comes first, before any other work. Arcadian Landscape in Encinitas was suspended on May 19 and reinstated on May 21 after we submitted a CSLB lookup, an ACORD 25 certificate of insurance and an IRS CP-575 letter. No SEO matters while the profile is offline. You can read the full document stack in our reinstatement write-up, and the service page is here.

Which parts of the website actually move rankings?

City and service pages do the heavy lifting. A page that says what you do in Poway, Vista or Carlsbad, with real photos and a clear phone number, beats a generic homepage every time.

Integrity Pro Washers is a good example. In month one the site picked up 167 search impressions and 81 profile impressions. We also cut the mobile Largest Contentful Paint from 18.1 seconds to 8.9 seconds by compressing hero images and removing a render-blocking script. That is still slower than I want. But it was a fix that took an afternoon, not a quarter.

And here is the honest part about our own site. We hold the number 4 spot for local seo oceanside and number 2 for local seo vista ca in Ahrefs checks, yet we logged 3 clicks in 14 days. Rankings without clicks are a title and description problem, which is why we are rewriting titles first.

How to check whether a provider is doing real work

Ask for these before you sign:

  1. The exact list of pages they will build or edit in the first 30 days.
  2. Which keywords they track and in which cities, measured from a named location rather than a blended average.
  3. How they report calls, not just impressions.
  4. What happens if your profile gets suspended.
  5. Whether you own the site and the profile when you leave.

We wrote a longer version of this in how to vet an SEO agency.

How long until local SEO services show results?

Impressions show up in weeks. Mr Green went from 0 to 451+ impressions and reached the number 1 spot for turf cleaning san diego. Calls take longer, and they depend on your trade and season. I would not promise a contractor anything inside 30 days beyond measurable movement in impressions. Our timeline post has the longer breakdown.
